I also agree that it is extremely refreshing to see such a list of goals related to Rune magic or of any sort really. Thanks so much for putting this out there.

Oh, and thanks for the link to Hex :)

cheers, ~Arrowyn

[...] Surrender to What Is [...]

[...] Be the change you want to see in the World [...] (Mahatma Gandhi)

I believe that one should not and could not try to change the World itself and directly. One could try to change its own inner processes. This alteration can be reflected upon the World's inner processes and that can result to making our World better.

Hello Auntie Em and welcome to Rune Secrets! I agree with Tyriel – these runes are yours – a special gift. Go ahead and handle them, feel them, use them. So much knowledge about the Runes has been lost that every one of us is in constant state of learning. Fortunately, the energies of the Runes themselves are our teachers.

When a friend first showed me her Runes I knew these were something I once ‘knew.’ I was immediately driven to have a set for myself (and being near the ocean at the time was able to collect and make a set from pebbles). I found that the Runes worked for me at my level of understanding (which was very minimal!). As we gain a little more understanding they expect more of us, but go ahead and try some ‘readings.’ Ask questions about situations you want better understand (avoid phrasing for yes/no answers though). Allow the rune to ‘give’ you understanding as well as using this site and other sources you find.

By the way, I thought Tyriel’s comment about always drawing the Runes in order might be a bit confusing. I think that he meant if you WRITE them down to do so in the order of Furthark. If you use a method of pulling (drawing) runes from your set the runes will come to you in the appropriate sequence. You merely let them find your hand and then pull them out and lay them down. This has got me thinking we could use an article from someone who is experienced with the casting method ….

Thanks for the praise, Auntie Em. I'm really happy that Rune Secrets has been so useful to you.

I think it's fine for you to use the runes for basic readings, and work from there. The best way to learn is to find the practical applications and apply them immediately.

You can meditate on certain runes... memorize core meanings... practice asking questions...

Of course, make your own notes on the runes, and refer to them often: they are YOUR runes. Anything on this site or any other site are suggestions drawn from a remarkably incomplete scholarly set of sources. But there are some agreements on them.

What I would emphasize MOST is: Always draw the 24 runes in the correct order (Fehu, Uruz, Thurisaz, Ansuz, etc.) and do not use a blank rune. The blank rune is basically the same as the rune Perthro... there's no need to put two of those in the set.

Also, arranged in the proper order, the 24 runes will eventually give you clues about one another, due to their relationship (position-wise) to the other runes. This is one of the ways I've gone very deeply into individual runes, having these sudden flashes of insight because of that runes position, and it's relationship with those that surround it.

Positioning them in a circle, clockwise, is not a bad idea either. See what you can infer about certain runes due to their relationships along that circle.

Dive in, Auntie Em, and don't be shy. They are YOUR runes, and they will lead you to insight about YOUR world.

Hi All,
I have been gifted some beautiful Runes, not knowing much about this I have been sarching the net, to try to get some knowlwdge and understanding of Runes, so far this is the Best site of them all, its Fantastic, the reading is so Powerful and Spiritual.. I'm loving it, the comments are a great help also.
I feel I dont know enough about the Runes to give myself a basic reading, do I read up more till I feel confident that I know what I am doing or just start by giving myself basic readings and work from there?
Appreciate help, Thanks

Building courage and be ready to face what one must face... That's a great advice. Indeed, this is quite universal and does not belong exclusively to any particular tradition.

I think everyone has to battle with pessimism... but skepticism (not believing everything you hear, or taking it at face value) can be really healthy.

The key is to test things out for yourself, and only accept that which makes sense to you, that works. :)
