Oh, I love Ansuz, it is one of my favourite Runes! It means just so much. Not only the ancestral god, Odin, but communication, including creative expression through poetry, writing, etc, but the very breath of the Divine - Spirit if you will. If you have ever had to study the Bible, you will know that the breath of god is the Holy Spirit and that being "inspired" means, in one sense, to be filled with the life force or Spirit of god. That is mind boggling to me. The very energy of the universe is Spirit to me and is part of everything and everyone.

I also feel therefore that Ansuz could relate to mediumship and psychic abilities since these are concerned with the art of communication with the other worlds and/or spirits not of this material plane.

Pardon me if I get off topic or ramble as I am having a few ciders and chose this subject to respond to as I was able to do so without having to read too much in depth. I find the Rune Ansuz very inspirational (and there is no pun intended at all here!). This is a Rune that I feel can help one connect with all of the Runes and also to concentrate on to connect with the universe, with Odin, with Spirit, spirit guides, etc, etc. I am just so in love with this Rune as I love to communicate and express myself and I feel quite emotional about the ability or privilege, yes privilege, when you consider how free we are in countries like Australia, the US and Britain (one the whole) to speak freely, believe freely and tell others about it. I am not meaning to get political here by saying this, I just link it to the Rune Ansuz and feel so blessed to have been introduced to the Runes, Ansuz and all other!

Thanks for your insights and the new concept (for me) of passing on breath from generation to generation.

Magritte's famous painting, "Ceci n'est pas une pipe" (this is not a pipe) seems to embody this aspect of Ansuz, forcing us to realize that the painting and the words are not to be confused with the item itself. I know that I spend a good part of my day analyzing, explaining, and describing, and I am sure that is true of many fields. I think Ansuz is one of those runes I should keep in mind every day, not only when it comes out of my rune bag, in answer to a question.

Thank you for the great explanation, and the timely reminder!
