There are riches to be found in the unconscious depths unlike anything. Thanks for sharing that, Henry! Any requests on the next rune I should write an analysis of anyone?

Great! Laguz is my favourite rune, but I never thought about it in terms of the reflective powers of a body of water before. Mahryan' poem reminds of one I wrote years ago about Laguz... I think it fits in nicely with your ideas:

Laguz [Water] is the singing sea
the bass of the waves
and song-notes soaring.
On it are carried
all ships of man
Who plunge deep
and rise enriched
if they can but swim.

This poem, written on a sunny April day four years ago is very much about the concepts Tyriel has presented in his analysis. I was walking along by a river, concerned with the mastery of emotion and finding my way through one of Loki’s little illusions – shattered in a moment like our reflection in still water. I would add to Tyriel’s comments that to me, to reach transcendence through Laguz is a two-way process in which the unconscious is brought into consciousness only as old consciousness is drowned in the watery depths.

Choking on Laguz

The sun shines
this morning
across my tousled bed
where moon-lit nights
have died.
I drag my
tattered carcass
through the doorway
shreds held together
with clothes.

Into the valley
I venture
my head held high
sunshine sparkles in
my hair.
Onto the bridge
too fast
across to the place
I wish to go
with me.

I tumble down
far down
darkest of waters
churning wildly
below me.
Back to where
I began
long, longing ago
cold waves engulfing
I wait.

Drowning consciously
I choke
on shreds of being
as my heart ceases
its beating.
I have allowed
you to
do this to me
and now I am
un-done.
